Although all of the characters in the novel Rules had an impact in some type of way, I believe that Jason had the biggest impact out of everyone. Throughout the entire story, Jason made so many people realize a variety of different things. Towards the beginning and middle of this book Catherine got very frustrated with her brother David, but Jason helped her realize that he can’t help it, and there's nothing for anyone to do to make his condition go away. This book is basically about how Catherine lives her life with her brother David, who has Autism, and the difficulties he brings to her and her family. Catherina has to make up a list of rules for David to follow to ensure he doesn’t embarrass himself or her when they are out in public. In the first chapter is states “It’s fine to hug Mom, but not the clerk at the video game store.” This is just one example of how Catherine tries to prevent David from doing anything inappropriate. Catherine often gets frustrated when David makes mistakes, until she meets Jason. He reminds Catherine that there is nothing she can do about David, and she can’t fix him no matter how hard she tries. …show more content…

In the beginning it states “ “They’re busy” I lie, closing the door behind me” This happened after David freaked out when he saw the bee at the new neighbors house. This embarassed Catherine so much, that she left her neighbors as soon as she could. You could tell she was very annoyed and uncomfortable after that happened. Once Catherine meets Jason, she has a whole new perspective on things. He gets her realize she can’t get mad at David and needs to help him understand stuff he doesn’t
