Why Should One Study International Relations? Have you ever thought about studying international relations? What is international relations? International relations is an interdisciplinary course which involves a lot of subjects such as history, economics, politics and sociology. One may argue that it is a complicated course; however, one has to bear in mind that international relations is an enjoyable course which has a lot of benefits for those students who study international relations and in this essay only two major ones will be introduced. For instance, those students who study international relations may follow an academic career in the field of history. Since history is a major branch of social sciences, there are a lot of specific areas such as social history, economic history or history of art. In addition to this, there are a lot of countries in the world; therefore, one can imagine how many specific studies can be conducted. The other field that one who studies international relations can follow an academic career is political science. The ones who follow an academic career in the field of political science may study on the political ideologies or concepts such as liberalism, conservatism or Marxism and by doing so, these students will be able to see their lives in a wider perspective since they learnt about different kinds of ideologies. Firstly, studying international relations gives a lot of opportunities for travelling to both students and those who are working in a job which is related to international relations. For instance, the students can go abroad for educational purposes with different international student programs. One of these programs is Erasmus. Erasmus is an international program which enables students to study abroad for six months or one year. Those students who went abroad with Erasmus can reinforce their CV, speak English fluently, or even learn a new foreign language and if it is considered that international relations students has to learn new languages as many as they can, Erasmus might be a good choice for these students who study international relations. In addition to Erasmus, there is another organization, especially for the international relations students, which is called Model United Nations (MUN). MUN is a simulation of United Nations. This organization gives opportunity to go abroad for college students. MUN also motivates to students learn because while the students are preparing to represent a country, these students, who attend MUN meetings, have to learn a lot of information about the country which they chose to represent.
