Working with children in this setting is important to me because it is the closest we can get to learning how students may operate in a classroom setting without actually being in a classroom. Obviously the kids’ summers are different than their time in the classroom in the school year, but they are similar as well. This setting provides structure for the kids. There is a set schedule and that is extremely important for kids both in the summer and during the school year. I believe giving students this setting to grow and develop is both important to them and myself. By giving them the opportunity to grow, it is giving all of the staff a better opportunity to grow.
In this position you will be working long days with large groups of children,

A few of my most importance values that heavily relate to being a Group leader and/or Supervisor is my determination, reliability, and efficiency. These values are all quite different, but are somehow also very similar. I am an extremely determined individual. When given a task, no matter how difficult, I am determined to get it done. Working with children can be extremely challenging. Because of my values, I am determined to come to the best solution I can when dealing with challenging situations. I also use my determination to keep my place of work tidy and organized. I consider myself a reliable teacher and coworker. If any of the kids have any concerns or questions, they can rely on me to try my best to help them find the answer. If any of my coworkers ever need a favor, I am always willing to lend a hand. Whether that means helping that teacher with a student, helping to clean up after an activity if the teacher has something else to do, or any other favors they may need. I am there to help. The final value that I would like to write about is how efficient I am. Both in my personal and professional life, I truly value being efficient. I have always been an extremely busy person, so I have grown into a very efficient person. I clean up as I go, I make sure that everything is done that needs to be, I will also try to get tasks done that will eventually need to get done. I …show more content…
Sometimes I get frustrated in situations, and I take a deep breath, then talk to the children. I would never take out my frustration on the kids. That is not the type of patience I am writing about. I am writing about the type of patience that is long term. I am the type of person who loves to see results right away, so when I speak to a child about a certain situation, I want them to learn from it right away; however, it does not work like that. Throughout my time, I have dealt with a number of “difficult” children. One student who sticks out to me is Heaven. She was a senior in the Summer of 2017. She was very hard to work with in the beginning of the summer. That was in the beginning of my time as a teacher. By the end of the summer, there was a situation that arose and she handled it so well. I was so proud of her. It is hard to see a student struggle everyday and not look at them in a negative way. I begin to expect bad behavior so it makes me prone to see their bad behavior more than others. This is definitely something I struggle with and want to work on, patience with kids. I believe my most important strength is my willingness to learn and try new things. I want to continue to improve as a staff, coworker, leader, and teacher. In order to do this, I love trying new things. If something does not work, let it go, and try something new. I really enjoy researching things to bring into
