Dr. Seuss, was a famous author from Springfield, Massachusetts, that wrote The Cat in the Hat, a children's book that was published in 1957. Dr. Seuss became widely known from the success of the book as millions of copies were already being sold three years after its debut. The Cat in the Hat was written to respond to the issue on children’s reading levels at the time, and the simple wording and imagery appealed to many young audiences. It was not his only book, he had many books selling over 600 million book copies across the world. He wrote and published over 60 books that are still famous today. Many works were adapted off of his influence, for example many motion pictures were produced based off of his stories, such as The Cat in the Hat and The Lorax, and there is even a Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden. A list was given of 200 words that children at this age should know. This list was passed around to try and make a book that would deal with this problem. It is said that Dr.Seuss was tired of the list so he decided to use the first two words he found to make a story, which were cat and hat. The Cat in the Hat is about two kids who were left home alone on a rainy day and so ¨The Cat in the Hat¨ comes in to amuse their boredom and makes a huge mess, and was written to teach kids morals about trust, responsibility, wrongness, and lying. When the mother came home, the Cat cleaned everything and left right before she walked in and asked Sally what they did while she was gone, leaving them wondering on if they should tell her.
