Nowadays, record labels and artists cannot persuade listeners to ‘buy’ their music. It is believed that the aspect of music has changed due to the popularity of music streaming. Allen (2013) agreed by stating that music streaming has changed the view of people in the industry of music. For example, popular music streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora and a number of new music streaming applications provide the easiest way for listeners to enjoy music freely without having to do illegal downloading or buying a CD. Likewise, Listeners have the ability to choose the music they want to listen.

Endorsement deals play a big role in a musician’s career. Currently people are debating about whether or not artists should allow advertisers to use their music in promotions. Advertising is an important part of anyone’s day-to-day life as an American. Most consumers feel intrigued when they see a commercial with their favorite artist’s tune playing. Some may feel compelled to buy the product being advertised if they recognize the music. This method of advertising is beneficial to both the artist, since they are getting exposure, and the company can sell more products. As the music business gets more competitive, it makes sense that an artist wants more exposure in order to sell their music. As long as the process is done legally, using an artist’s music in advertising is beneficial to both parties.

Artists are now becoming more independent, and are able to produce and sell their own music, without the need of a record label. With the advent of social media, promotion of their own work has never been easier.
