“The Rookie” is a movie about Jim Morris. At the age of 35, he made the 3 month transition from being a high-school science teacher and baseball coach to becoming a Major League Baseball player for his hometown, the Tampa Bay Devils. In this movie, the High-Five principles play an important role. They are portrayed in many different situations. The 5 High-Five principles are Change is Constant, Learning is Lifelong, Focus on the Journey, Access your Allies, and Follow your Heart. All these 5 principles are vital in the plot of this movie. The first High-Five principle is Change is Constant. One example of this is when Jimmy had moved 14 times when he was a kid, but finally stopped in Texas. A scene that shows this High-Five principle is when the team uses the coach as an ally by using him as pitching practice, which lead the coach to use the team as motivation at the tryouts to a Minor League team. This shows that when you help someone as an ally, they can help you as well, which shows why it is good to build allies, because without the team, he probably wouldn’t have reached his goal. Another example of this is when the wife convinces him to keep playing for the team, even though Jimmy thought that that was a dream long gone. This evidence shows how certain motivation because of allies can help you in the most dire of situations. Access your Allies plays a very important part in this movie. The last High-Five principle demonstrated in this movie is Follow your Heart. One part where this High-Five principle is portrayed is when he tells the high-school team he coaches that they should want something in life and to follow their dreams, but then the team turns it around and asks the coach, ”How come you can’t follow your dreams?” This is relevant because it made Jimmy later think about his future and eventually was the main reason that he made it to the Major Leagues. Another great example of this is when he makes it to the Big Leagues and throws the pitch confidently, something he’s always dreamed of ever since he was a kid.
