You know that feeling when you realize you are in love with your best friend, but can’t determine what is was that made you fall? That is how I feel about business. I knew at early age that I wanted to major in business, but I could never pinpoint why—it is just something I have always known. There was always something driving me to pursue a career in business over any other career. I recall in my third grade class answering that now-dreaded “What do you want to be when you grow up?” question with an ecstatic “Businesswoman!” when everyone else replied the classic “doctor,” “actor,” or “astronaut.” It is something that has always been ingrained in me; it was no eureka moment. With this opportunity, I intend to grow my skills and experience so that I can be successful when I work with larger corporations. The Kenan-Flagler Undergraduate Business Program is essential in achieving my goals because no other business school emphasizes the importance of having a global perspective and aiding the greater good the way this program does. To Kenan-Flagler, and to me, a degree in business is much more than an assurance of financial success; it is a guarantee of personal success—of becoming a globally responsible citizen. Kenan-Flagler’s MBA Program, the Center for Sustainable Enterprise, provides students with the tools they need to think bigger and to think greener, beyond the scope of themselves. It is my hope that my sustainability minor will allow me to bring a different perspective into the undergraduate college, igniting a passion for collectivity and positive change within my peers.
