First, the Last Supper is a biblical story of Jesus Christ’s final meal with his twelve apostles at the time when he announces someone is going to betray him. It was creating in the High Renaissance style during 1495 AD to 1498 AD. Leonardo was commissioned by Duke of Milan to execute the painting on the wall of the refectory in the Dominican monastery. The function is decoration for the refectory. The purpose of making this painting is to give visual expression in both Duke’s position and building’s (Web). The High Renaissance has roughly four decades from 1490 to 1527. High Renaissance period that creates a lot of ideal humanism both in painting and sculptures. The High Renaissance is focused on Rome and a lot of work was patron piece. Leonardo’s Last Supper is painted in the fresco style with oil paint. The first version of Leonardo’s Last Supper was in a bad condition because the medium he used is secco fresco style which is on dry plaster, but no only this causes the painting becoming more fragile and leads to a poor condition but also the humidly and dust are problems after second year of sixteen century (Khan Academy).
