“The Lesson” by Babama, is a short story in which Miss Moore, who is the only educated individual in her neighborhood, is trying to help the children in the neighborhood learn a life lessons. Miss Moore takes the children on a short trip to a better part of town, in which they see some very expensive items. The children want to understand how some people are able to buy these expensive things. The children also want understand how they can live like these people. By the end of the short story some of the children understand that they must be educated if they are to better themselves and make enough money so they can buy nice things (Bambara, 1972). Twenty states have legalized medical marijuana, and two states have even legalized marijuana for recreational use (Congressional Digest, 2014). There is a conflict as states laws do not trump federal laws (Congressional Digest, 2014). According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, “medical marijuana is a term that refers to using the whole unprocessed plant or extracts to treat a disease or symptom” (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2015). The FDA has not approved marijuana in the plant form because there have not been enough studies for them to approve it. The FDA has approved two medications that contain cannabinoid in a pill (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2015). Rachel started using medical marijuana a year ago. Rachel was in a very serious accident that left her paralyzed for a month. Because of the accident she has damage to some of the nerves that come out from the spinal cord. In the article, Rachel stated,” that she has attacks of pain that are unpredictable, and the pain feels like knives are stabbing her neck and shooting down her arms”(Casarett, 2015). The pain was so debilitating that Rachel was unable to do things that made life enjoyable as she was worried that a pain attack may happen. Rachel tried typical pain medications, visited several doctors they either did not relieve the pain or the pain medications made her so drugged that she was unable to function. Since Rachel has started using medical marijuana, she has a quality of life again. Rachel has less pain and is even able to exercise and enjoy life (Cassarett, 2015). According to Barth Wilsely, who is an anesthesiologist that has done a lot of research on marijuana and the effects is has on chronic pain, marijuana is useful on neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain is pain caused by the nerves. Wilsely also stated that “for patients with common pain, that marijuana is not ideal for this kind of pain, but instead drugs such as Motrin, Tylenol and even morphine would control that kind of pain better”(Cassarett, 2015). There are patients without pain that have used
