Corporal Punishment
There has always been a very complicated line between corporal punishment and abuse. Corporal punishment is when physical force causing pain, but no injury, is used to change or improve the behavior of a child. On the contrary, physical abuse is the act of in to their cognitive immaturity. If this is true, parents should be teaching their kid what the right thing to do would be, not corporally punishing them for something they weren’t knowingly doing.
Another issue with corporal punishment is understanding the legality of it and what is and isn’t acceptable. All 50 states in the US have laws permitting the use of “reasonable” corporal punishment, whilst having laws prohibiting non-accidental serious injury. With that general …show more content…

In all reality, when it comes down to it, there are very few hard drawn lines on what the difference between corporal punishment and abuse are.
Some believe however that spanking can be an appropriate form of punishment in the home. Most who feel this way feel the only appropriate time to spank your child is for an act of willful defiance. A more reasonable approach to fixing a child’s behavior could be to simply communicate with each other and figure out why they are acting out of defiance. Using reason and making a child feel comfortable with their parents may help the child be more open, therefore parents can help their kids become better individuals and build character.
Spanking a child is just temporarily putting fear in their brain that they might get spanked if they do something bad.
Another argument is that children with mild ADHD could be corrected with spanking instead of Ritalin. This does not correct them, but instead takes more of a “scared straight” approach.
