Many people have different methods of punishing a child. However, some methods, such as spanking, are unreasonable. Spanking is a type of physical punishment that involves the act of striking another person in order to cause pain, generally with an open hand (Kathy Shepard). Have you ever thought of the outcome of spanking a child? The long term effects? Child spanking can cause many more issues than the ones it supposedly fixes. Parents should refrain from spanking a child due to the fact that it can have many negative effects such as psychological, behavioral, and even ones that lead on to adulthood.

Some of the factors a child needs in order to learn right from wrong is reasoning and understanding. Spanking a child just lets them know that when they do something bad, something bad happens in return. There is little to none understanding through a child’s point of view when being spanked.
Parents should not spank their child due to the fact that there are more studies that have shown that spanking may lead to aggression and behavioral issues. This may be because parents tend to go overboard with it to an abusive level or because they do not punish for the right reasons. Many people who were spanked may have issues, whether they acknowledge it or not. People tend to look past the mild flaws that are hard to see in one’s self. For instance, if someone has a mild form of anxiety or even depression, it would be hard for them to acknowledge
