A Different Outlook on the Crusades Rodney Stark, author of the monograph God’s Battalions: The Case for the Crusades, displays a different approach than most of what he believes was the cause of the crusades. The monograph displays the events of the crusades in chronological order to get an accurate understanding of what happened and when. The question that Stark is researching is the true cause of the crusades. In his introduction, Stark explains the general view of what historians believed caused the crusades. He explains many different popular interpretations on how and why the crusades began.
Thomas F. Madden’s The Concise History of the Crusades focuses on the Holy Land between 1095 and 1291. In the foreword, Madden explains that, “the heightened public interest in the Crusades since 9/11 has created a market for popular histories (Madden, viii).” This is important to note, as his previous editions of the book were not as focused on the idea of present day relations between the Islamic and Western world. While Madden answers the question of what the relationship is between the medieval Crusades and the problems of modern Israel, his argument throughout the monograph follows a traditionalist account that of the Crusades as being tied to Jerusalem as a destination. However, it can be understood by the reader that Madden’s main argument answers the question, what were the motivations of the Crusades, and how have the Crusades contributed to Islamic rage and terrorism today?
The Crusades are several wars that went on between the Muslims and the Christians They fought for Jerusalem. Most of the wars took place in Jerusalem. Were the results of the Crusades more positive of negative? I think the results were more negative. One reason being the people that the Christians hired turned their backs on them.
The Crusades were a violent series of battles that Christians fought against Muslims in order to gain back the holy land, Jerusalem. The Christians felt threatened by the intimidating rule of the Islamic Empire, and their response was the first Crusade. These attacks continued and grew unsuccessful throughout many years, and are often due to the intense bond between Christians and God, however there are other influences, like wealth and power. Some argue also that the actions committed during these events were not necessarily “barbaric”, considering the historical time period. The Crusades should be remembered as a series of attacks with a variety of motives and influences that were violent and barbaric.
In modern times, there exists a lot of confusion and misconception surrounding the Crusades. It is now time to dispel that confusion by pragmatically analyzing two texts concerning two opposite perspectives: Call to Crusade and A Muslim Perspective. In order to fully grasp the key factors behind the Crusades, one must understand the true importance and power of Christianity in Medieval Europe, how Pope Urban II justified the mission, what drew the participating Christians into joining the crusades, and the differences as well as the similarities between the two texts. After looking at the evidence in the texts, it becomes clear that religion played a very small part in the crusades; the true factors behind these tragedies were money and power.

This paper explores these contrasting perspectives during the First Crusade. I will write about what I think happened from reconciling different people in each religion. The First Crusade was a big event that happened in medieval history that started around 1095.
The Crusades intertwine various aspects of history – from war, politics, economics, and diversity on both religious and cultural scales. They are regarded as having lasted from the late eleventh to seventeenth centuries; even since then, they’ve gone on to cast a long shadow over the rest of history. They are uniquely characterized by the key involvement of the church and papacy in the waging of the warfare itself – that which would shift the fight against Muslim expansion into an all-out war for the claiming of Holy Lands. Individual rulers and people fighting for their lands were forced to accept a higher calling – one fought in lands made sacred by Jesus Christ himself.
The crusades changed the world forever by disrupting the middle east. The crusades were Christianity based excursions attempting to spread the love of Jesus Christ through deadly force. These wars took place in the middle east between the eleventh and sixteenth centuries and is known as a mainly Muslim verse Christian conflict. There was a lot of collusion inside the catholic church at this time especially those who organized the crusades, and those who recorded it. These wars are still felt today, and we can see how they affected the middle east and western relations by examining the past.

Medieval Europe was a time of war and conflict between different peoples. One of the most important military endeavors of the time was called the Crusades, which was a campaign of Christian attempts to take Jerusalem from the Muslims, who occupied it at the time. Spread over several hundred years, many bloody battles were fought over the holy city. The Crusades involved the two largest religions on the continent and impacted a massive amount of people. The battles irreparably changed the lives of everyone they touched, turning peasants to knights and nobles to slaves.
The Crusades were successful failures because they did not meet many of their goals, but left lasting effects. The Crusades was an attempt by the Roman Catholic Church to regain the Holy Lands from the Muslims. They believed they were fighting for god and all sins would be forgiven and defend the Byzantine Empire from the Turks. The first Crusade (1096 -1099) was successful for the Christians because they had a clear and organized religious based purpose. Crusaders the Christian armies were able to hold Jerusalem and in the process led to a massacre of Jews.
The crusades were one of the deadliest conflicts in all of human existence. They also left a huge mark on religion and culture, most notably, the three Abrahamic religions, and modern day Israel. There were also a series of political and military conflicts between the Catholics and the Seljuk Empire, about Jerusalem. There existed a total of eight crusades between Muslim and Christian armies. The Catholic Church, then led by Pope Urban II, ordered armies be mobilized in an attempt to take Jerusalem back from the Seljuk Turks.
The Christians and Muslims both wanted control of Jerusalem but Muslims retained control in the end. Jerusalem meant a lot to the Muslims because this is where they believe Muhammad descended to heaven. For the Christians this is where the Messiah was crucified. For the Jews it is where Jesus died and the most important point of salvation took place there. It is also the site of the great temples of Solomon and Herod.
The crusades affected trade in Europe. The way trade got affected was the bad causes that came because of the crusades. During one of the crusade wars, Europe 's good were affected during the wars, because after them, the were running low on merchandise and products. So not only was this bad for merchants, but it was bad for the townspeople, because they need resources. It also affected Europe in another way.
