Lord of The Flies Essay By: Carmin Taggart In the book The Lord Of The Flies by William Golding. A plane crashes but the only adult onboard was the pilot but he was presumed dead . A group of boys get stuck on a deserted island to fend for themselves. The theme of The Lord Of The Flies is that evil can overtake a person very easily with not much pushing them toward it. That is the theme because they were violence towards each other, they reverted to savagery, they got joy from hunting, and they lost their patiences. The first reason why the theme is what it is because of how they got violent with each other. For instance Jack was being violent with Ralph, Sam, Piggy, and Eric when they went to get Piggy’s glasses back. Which eventually leads to Jack and his hunters pushing a boulder at Piggy which flung him off the cliff and he dies from the fall. On page 180 and 181 it states “ Then the monstrous red thing bounded across the neck and he flung himself flat while the tribe shrieked. The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee”. This was caused by Ralph ordering his hunters to release the rock to try to hurt/kill Ralph, Piggy, Sam, and Eric. Jack starts to refer to violence to help him with simple things when it could have been talked out. …show more content…

For example Jack and some of his hunters wanted to kill all the pigs on the island for food and for fun. Which leads up to them reverting to savagery. On page 75 it states “Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her in.” This was caused from them reverting to savagery and wanting to kill all the pigs/animals on the island. If they were there long term they would have food problems from killing the
