Imagine a world with no books. Everyone just gets the answers they need with the tap of a button. Sounds like our world a little bit. If you didn’t have to take English would you read at all? This is what Guy Montag is experiencing in his society.
We have come a long way from the dark times when we, americans, exercised slavery throughout the country. From when african americans fought for their freedom. From when they pursued through the rigorous implications caused by white men. From when public areas were segregated between white and black races. The quote "Little as he knew though, he wanted Ralph and Berry to think he knew a lot. "-Page 512, from the story The Mountain Legend by Jordan Wheeler. I think it would be a call to attention because it's foreshadowing that Jason will climb the intimidating mountain. After all, he wants to impress Ralph and Barry. Another call to attention is that it is suspense because it makes the reader want to read more and think about whether will Jason climb the mountain, whether he'll survive, whether he'll listen to Ralph and Barry, and whether he'll be influenced.
When someone allows themselves to believe something whole-heartedly, it can often spur an event or change in their life or the lives of others. These beliefs, or perceptions, have the ability to change people’s points of view so completely that they are unable to return to their previous standard of life. This perceivable change in one’s psyche is exactly what Bradbury attempts to capture in The Martian Chronicles. Bradbury’s words paint a picture of the crumbling of two thriving cultures as they come in to contact with each other. He shows the questioning and cracking of individual’s identities as they face circumstances which interfere with their personal points of view.

Over spring break I read The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. In my opinion this book was quite strange, but also very interesting. At first I felt bad for the people traveling to Mars because they were being killed for trying to establish relationships with the martians, but as I continued to read I starting feeling bad for the martians for the complete destruction of the planet. When the first few expeditions to Mars occurred, although the men who traveled there were killed, chicken pox was transferred to the martian population. The chicken pox did not resonate with the martians like it does with humans, and caused almost the entire population to die a painful death.
Gatlin Farrington 12/1 P.4 Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is an excellent utopian/dystopian fictional story about a man who fights for the freedom to read. The government in this world has made almost every book (with a few exceptions) illegal. They have done this due to the contradictory ideas found in them.
