The film The Maze Runner shows strong character contrast through the main protagonist, Thomas, and the villain, Gally. Thomas views the world with strong curiosity where Gally doesn’t like to ask questions and dislikes change. The two can be most obviously compared by looking at their personalities and the similarities and differences between them. Another way of comparison for the two is by seeing what their physical conflicts involve and how they attempt to resolve them. Both Gally and Thomas want to achieve the same major goal of survival, but through their personalities and instincts the way they try to achieve this is very different. This is conveyed most obviously through Ably’s line “he’s different, he’s curios”. It's assumed Thomas is the first Glader to question deeply why they are there and why it's they can’t leave. Within the first three days that he has been placed there, things begin to change, including runners getting stung during the day and a girl being placed into the maze. Thomas makes a huge impact on the way that life had been running for the past three years and many of the Gladers welcome this change that Thomas brings, demonstrating that he has the personality and the will of a leader. Gally shows throughout the film that he has a hard working and stubborn personality. He has spent three years in the maze and in that time he made his way and was respected like a leader. The first time the audience sees Gally he is shown as the leader of the Gladers, he is the first to speak to Thomas and stands directly over him conveying his dominance and displaying the masculine traits of his personality.
