Dear Mrs.Maclean, I have recently just finished reading The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. The Scorch Trials is the sequel to The Maze runner. Thomas, the main character, is thrown into a barren wasteland that has been demolished by a sun flare. Tomas and his friends must travel across the wasteland until they find “the safe heaven” that a group of scientists called “WICKED” ,has created to stop a zombie like disease that turns people crazy. The Scorch Trials is a sci fi book that takes place on future Earth. I picked this book because I have already read the previous book and I liked it. There are many themes in the The Scorch Trials, but the main themes are fear, friendship and manipulation. These three themes are displayed throughout the whole book. Thomas and his friends have to battle in unison to defeat crazy people that want them dead. As the story unfolds long lost friends that “WICKED” has manipulated to convince them to kill Thomas. The theme fear basicly makes up the whole book. One passage i really liked is on page 329, gigantic pods rose out of the ground. As the group looked creatures began to emerge out of them.
