In the book “And Then There Was One”, was a story which detective Annie had to solve of case of missing valuable bluecoat puppies from their cages. Tater, the store owner, Mrs. Sellunow, the one with the keys, Mr. Kees, an expert locksmith were the main suspects, as they were the most recent people who’ve visited the store. Someone wanted to obtain the valuable and rare bluecoat puppies without paying for it. Annie tried to get clues, she found the clue of something trying to sell the bluecoat animals, the sounds of running water, pieces of cloth and furballs of the dogs. Finally, all of the clues clicking in Annie’s mind, she could figure out who the thief was, it was Ms. Sellunow.

I was pleasantly surprised of the fact that the two girls were actually in love with each other. Initially I had the notion that the girls were comparing their love of books in a manner that related with loving someone else, however, the real conflict was the girl’s exploration into the process of professing their love for each other. So the understanding of the text was changed drastically by the finally sentence.
In The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien, Tim uses a series of war stories to explain what it was like for him and his fellow soldiers in the Vietnam War. While many seem factually untrue, he describes a True war story as one that makes you feel the same emotions and feelings the soldiers had, opposed to true war stories that tell of what actually happened. He explains how the teller “wanted to heat up the truth, to make it burn so hot that you would feel exactly what he felt… facts were formed by sensation, not the other way around…” (O’Brien 89). The stories were made up based off how they felt experiencing it. One specific story, “Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong,” recounts the story of a soldier bringing over his girlfriend and the transformation she goes through as she spends time in the jungle.

As the book points out, the values and ideals of the Hmong culture and the United States health care system are not always the same and sometimes come into great conflict with each other.
