The Pinkerton Agency was founded in 1850 by Allan Pinkerton. Pinkerton is a National Security and Detective Agency. This Union was mostly represented by male and female detectives. However, female detectives hadn’t joined the Pinkerton Company until 1856. The first female detective’s name was Kate Warne. The most responsible person in this agency was the leader and owner of it, Allan Pinkerton. Allan was born on August 25, 1819 in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1842, he moved to Chicago and then later joined the police department in 1847. Allan opened his own office and the Pinkerton company in 1850 on 80 Washington street Chicago Illinois. He also created this set of rules for his agents to follow. Accept no bribes, never compromise with criminals, refuse divorce cases or cases that initiate scandals, turn down reward money, never raise fees without the client’s pre-knowledge, and keep clients apprised on an ongoing basis. The first ever train robbery took place in 1866 and the Pinkertons were called to arrest the robbers. Throughout the 1870’s, Allan began filling and clipping newspaper stories for references in investigations and begins the first basic criminal database. Allan Pinkerton was died in 1884 and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. The agency was then ran by his grandsons Robert and William.
