Through research of human feelings, behaviors, and experiences it has been shown that humans in fact use more then 10% of their brain. “Though an alluring idea, the "10 percent myth" is so wrong it is almost laughable, says neurologist Barry Gordon at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore” (Robynne Boyd, 1). However, some truth to this statement is that, when humans rest or sleep, only 10% of the brain is used at that time. Thoughts don’t stop, that is why humans have a tendency of either dreaming or having a nightmare. People believe that if they use more than 10% of your brain, then supernatural or unexplainable findings will occur. The effect of this is because people believe everything they hear. A perfect example of this is the movie “Lucy”. Lucy demonstrates the supernatural and unexplainable things that “may” occur if a human reaches 100% of their brain’s capacity. Which unfortunately is not true and a myth as Kevin Bennett says, “That’s because Hollywood loves to revive the 10% myth every few years (e.g., Phenomenon, 1996; Limitless, 2011) and I can see why” (Bennett, 1). Little things humans do can involve 10% of the brain. Some of these include blinking, twitching, humming, or even just moving your toes requires already 10%. Individuals believe that “psychic” abilities will be given to them and/or they will be capable of their intellegence will boast. “By inference the myth suggests that people can harness unused potential in order to boost their IQ or develop “psychic” skills and other extraordinary abilities” (Richard E.Cytowic M.D.,1).
