The Musical That Changed The Life Of Oliver

When I was about eight years old my mom showed me this english musical called “Oliver”. Being the average eight year old boy I was, I hated musicals. Oliver was about a poor orphan boy named Oliver who grows up without parents. His mother died soon after she gave birth to him and his father was nowhere to be found. Having this happen to him, it changed his life in many difficult ways. It caused him to be put in an orphanage where Oliver stayed for nine years. This part of the book makes you realize how fortunate you are to have parents. I think the reason I like it so much was because of the idea of Oliver being alone with no parents to depend on made me think of what it would be like if I didn't have parents. I couldn’t even imagine what Oliver must have felt knowing that he had no family.

After a few days Fagin sends Oliver out with Dodger and Charley to go pickpocket people. They eventually pass a wealthy looking man that is reading a book. Dodger and Charley sneak up behind him and take his handkerchief. As they took it, Oliver finally understood what Fagin was trying to teach him. The man turned around right as Oliver ran away and he thought Oliver was the one who stole it. So the man yelled out “thief!”, people in the streets stopped Oliver and a police officer arrived and arrested him. Oliver was taken to a cell where he stayed until he went to court later on. In court the judge gave him three months of hard labor but Mr. Brownlow, the man whose handkerchief got stolen, said he did not want to press charges because Oliver looked familiar. Right before the court service ended Mr. Brownlow came in and told the judge that Oliver was innocent and that the other two boys were the ones who took his handkerchief.
