Greed is a prevalent theme in literary works, “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Necklace” both show this problem. “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Necklace are two completely different stories. The stories are different in setting, the character's background, and what happened because of their greed. However overall the stories are very similar in meaning. Both are about not to be so greedy and be happy with what you have. Both “The Necklace” and “The Monkey’s Paw” have similarities and differences in themes and characters which show how the consequences of greed led to the character's demise, however the plot lines were very different. “The Monkey’s Paw” and “the Necklace” are similar because both story’s theme are about to not let temptations and greed ruin your life. The characters in “The Monkey’s Paw” even said they don’t need anything else, they already had everything they needed and desired. “The Necklace” showed that the women needed more and was very greedy. In “ The Necklace” the characters gave up and lost hope of finding the necklace, so they put that aside and lived their poor life. While in “The Monkey’s Paw” the mother fights for her son and does not give up hope. The father ends up stopping the mother and the reader does not really know what happens from that point on. Also in “The Necklace” and “The Monkey’s Paw” the characters have different personalities. The woman character in “The Necklace” is greedy and wants more all the time. Although the main character is calm, settle, and happy with what he has. Similar to “The Monkey’s Paw” the women character wants her son back.
