In T. H. White’s The Once and Future King (1958), Wart is the adopted son of Sir Ector. He has a brother named Kay, who is the heir of the kingdom. They used to have a tutor but they lost her because she went crazy. One day, when Kay and Wart were hawking, they discovered a wizard named Merlyn who became their new tutor.
The King’s shadow is a historical fiction that takes place during King Harold’s reign and specifically focuses on a young peasant named Evyn. As you might expect like any young person Evyn has dreams, specifically he wanted to become a storyteller. This is important as storytellers around this time, according to the book at least, often used their voices tell these tales rather than letting an individual read them. However, as you might expect from a story set during the medieval period Evyn’s dream will be stolen before he was even given a chance to even try. This was done by a group of thugs who not only cut off Evyn’s tongue, causing him to lose his voice, but also took it one step further and killed Evyn’s father.
The Wart, the Roach, and the Monarch After reading The Once and Future King, by T.H White, the main character, the Wart goes through many transformations, this reflection will be reviewing chapter 5 and the lessons the Wart learns; compassion through the roach and swan and the dangers of a tyrannical government through Mr. P. The Wart’s first lesson starts out on a hot summer day by the moat of Ector’s castle. Merlin talks to the god Neptune and asks if he will turn the Wart into a fish, Neptune accepts and the Wart is off on his first lesson. “Snylrem stnemilpmoc ot enutpen dna lliw eh yldnik tpecca siht yob sa a hsif?” (White 45).
The Once and Future King, written by T.H. White, is a novel that takes place mainly in Medieval England. Although this story took place such a long time ago, White has incorporated many modern aspects into the plot. Anachronism is used within The Once and Future King in such a way so that it creates a more modern feel for the novel. Even though there are plenty of examples of anachronism within the story, one of the main examples that stands out to me is the appearance of Merlyn. In T.H. White’s story The Once and Future King, the author uses a style that goes along with the time period of the story. Because he chose that style to write in, readers can understand how it was in Medieval England. They may have also felt like they were actually there with the characters as if they were actually talking to Sir Ector or adventuring as a fish with Art and Merlyn. They don’t just read the book, they live and feel the story of Arthur as he grows from a child, to being king. The style, tone, and character development help the author make it seem like one is in another time period.
The first part of the dialogue was answering those problems that people have with having bad tyrants. Bad tyrants make the country go to poverty and do not improve their countries. They made their people live like their slaves and they live for the tyrant’s desire, because they use their people and their armies for their benefit only. They do not care about people’s life as a human been. They want just use people for their benefits.
