What would it be like in the future, would you know? How would you live 100 years in the future? Maybe you’ll learn what it is like in the book “The Pedestrian”. The Pedestrian takes place more than 100 years in the future. The main character of this text is the only one that is living normally, among millions of others. In The Pedestrian, by Rad Bradbury, the setting of the text impacts the characters, plot, and theme. The setting conveys the message that the future holds many mysteries for humanity. In “The Pedestrian” the character(s) are impacted by the setting, by it changing their actions, and the things they do. It allows the reader to understand the story, and makes the story feel proper to the setting. The plot of the story commences because of the setting, which is a cold evening during November in the future, which gives us some background information on the story. The story of a man who enjoys being outside in a time where no one does the same, and he is the only one outside of his world in the future. “He was alone in this world of A.D. 2053” This evidence shows that the plot of the text builds upon the setting, using the fact that they’re in the future on a cold evening to show that the man is the only one doing this, and the only one outside. “A metallic voice called to him: “Stand still. Stay where you are! Don't move. He halted.” (“Put up your hands!"). This is when Leonard gets pulled over and the cops question him as to why he is the only one out walking around at night time. Leonard proceeded to answer their questions. This helps develop the plot through the setting because the we learn why the man goes outside in his free time at night time, just to walk. It allows the plot to continue. All in all, this shows the plot is developed through the setting, because of the future setting the story develops in a way that makes the main character seem different from all of his peers, and other people. The theme of the text, “The Pedestrian” is shown to the reader throughout the setting. “He was alone in this world of A.D. 2053” is a sentence said at the start of the text, starting off by telling the reader when and where the story takes place.
