There are three sides to a story. The viewpoint of person one, the point of view of person two, and the truth. The point of view of a person in the situation is tarnished by their perspective, personal opinion, and moral compass. These aspects make their view biased. The truth is not affected by any of theses things and it is objective and unbiased. Jeremy believes what he did is not wrong. His girlfriend China has her own version of the events. The truth is that Jeremy broke the law. He tries to justify his action in several different ways. He says that it is only his and China personal business and it did not involve government authorities; that the child had already been dead; that it was China’s idea and not solely his own. First-degree murder is defined as “an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, meaning that it was committed after planning (Juvia). Murder by abuse and neglect is when the cause death is neglect or abuse. The charge of first-degree murder implies that it was a premeditated murder and well thought out murder plan. This is an appropriate description of what happened with Jeremy and China unborn child. Jeremy was emotionally detached from the child, which is why the child was never given a name or gender, the child was “it”. The generalization of the child gives more evidence that Jeremy had the idea to kill the child regardless of China’s plea to get dispose of the child after it’s birth. Jeremy constantly stated that the child was a mistake and that it had ruined his life. He never shows a progression of acceptance towards the baby, he thoroughly detests the child and wants nothing to do with it. “You've gotta get rid of it”(Boyle 316). He told her this in the motel room, which was his and China’s private getaway, that would later become a prison. He told China this when he first discovered that she was pregnant and he harbored these feeling throughout the full nine months of pregnancy. He constantly thought about how he would not have a life, could not be a freshman in college, how he would not be a free man. He cares more about his future and that drove him to kill his newborn child. He disregarded and took advantage of his girlfriend, China, and blames her for the death of their child. He tries to justify the murder by saying that she told him to kill it, but the reality is that she was in a traumatic state after just having her child. Jeremy knew that the child was alive when he disposes of it in the dumpster. He never connects with the idea of fatherhood because he never intended on being a father. The child is referred to as it, thing and a mistake. Jeremy never gives the child an identity because he plans that the child will not live long enough to an identity.
