On Oct 19, I watch and improvises the new Theatreworks Silicon Valley production musical " The Prince of Egypt at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. This musical production was directed by Scott Schwartz and written by Philip LaZebnik. From my first time seeing the new upcoming musical production, I would tell that the well-directed and written of this play musical are similar to what I expected from the story Book of Exodus and also the film. On the other hand, they have some ideas that they alternated the production. Also, their efforts from this performance were really outstanding. It showed a strong context of a message into a play and toward the audience. The two main performers both worked on productions in more emotional ways that are similar to the brotherly relationship despite their differences. The writer for this play Philip LaZebnik trying to readapt the ideas from the film into the stage and performance. Also, he reshaped the piece into a musical rather than actual play because he wanted to take the opportunity to search deeper connections between characters and the relationships between them. The production of this play focuses on storytelling in music, lyrics, characters, and relationships only. They used choreography in actor’s bodies and movements to create visual ways of this play. They mostly used more on lightning effects and some dancers to represent certain elements: water, fire, and plague into this play. I think it was much like a virtuoso than believable or complete failure; they mainly focused on a visual way such as singing and dancing on representing strong emotions on what actors and actresses express toward the play and audience. The directing of this play did show the concept on what director Scott Schwartz and writer Philip LaZebnik wanted to do to this new musical. The text of this play explained the realistic ideas and well as melodrama on what the author was trying to communicate, but in a visually exciting way. It also expresses both ideas in episodic and climatic into the play. The aesthetics support the play on what conflicts that explained the text of this play; it was about the two brothers (Ramses and Moses) who have complicated conflicts from each other based on their ethnicity and cultures. Theater space was much like proscenium stage because it’s big, modern, fancy enough to support the play concept for both audience and performers. Sound effects are very dynamic in the props, but the microphone from actors and actresses should affect stronger for them to act and sing. The scenery showed more symbolic than realistic on putting lightning effects and choreographers for the singers and dancers to create more representation ideas into the play.
