Many people have written about social media over the years. This is so the public can be well informed. People can collect all of the facts and realize what they truly think about social media. I have selected a book that I feel truly represents social media and what it does. I searched through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and many other websites to find the perfect book. I saw other books that I thought about. Those books were either too long, too short, or did not talk about what I was learning. The book I selected describes social media in a clear and factual way. The book is called Social Media: a critical introduction 2nd edition. The book is written by Christian Fuchs. One of these impacts include the first word of social media; social. There is a reason that it is the first word. The author describes this by saying, “Social media in their current forms advance the socialization of human activities.”(p.g. 343). This is meant to talk about the evolution of socializing. There are many activities that social media has added socialization to that the author lists. These activities include games, watching movies, etc. The author goes into detail about these different activities and their socialization. Games, for example, now can be played with friends anywhere in the world. This allows people to meet more people. Also a lot of games have forums, which allow people to talk about the games they love with other people, which is a form of socialization. Also, watching movies can now be social. Anyone can talk about movies, bond with people over movies and recommend exciting new movies at anytime and anywhere in the world. This was not possible to do online 20 years ago. This shows how social media is making people more social. A person can be on their bed and in their pajamas, forming a friendship with someone in a different time zone. The author sees this as a real benefit to society. He sees it as improvement to people’s social skills because there are now more opportunities to be social. Social media is making people more social, and the author thinks this is one of the many reasons social media is helping people
