Parents have stopped being disciplinarians for fear of their child not liking them or the child threatens to call the authorities. Teachers are not the same now as back in the 1950’s when ADHD did not exist. Teachers actually had control in their classroom. They were not worried about being liked or making friends, teachers were there to educate and that is what they did. If a child was being disruptive the teacher would discipline as they saw fit. It is so much easier now days to blame the child then it is to blame the adults.
By all means medication is necessary for illnesses that can be proven through blood test or imaging test such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. Providing medications for these types of illnesses are warranted because they have been properly diagnosed by science. Parenting styles also make an impact on academic achievements. Parents who are involved want to know how their child is doing in school both socially and academically. Parents who may not care as much may not even ask how things are going with their child. Some parents may even get offended if a teacher speak with them regarding their child being behind or having behavioral issues. Parents who yell, hit or belittle their children will most likely have a negative impact on their children’s education and self-esteem. Parents and teachers in general do not want to deal with children who are disruptive or difficult, instead of figuring out the root of the problem it is much easier to medicate
