Over 600,000 abortions happen in the U.S. alone. Because of these high abortion rates, abortion can cause chaos in society. Although abortion is legal in most states, some citizens protest against it. The Red Rose Rescue group drew nationwide attraction when they committed acts of civil disobedience in attempting to persuade women not to abort their unborn children. Pro-life activists believe that abortion should not be an option to women. They argue that they are there to help whether it is financially or spiritually to those who are deciding to “murder” their child. In Lianne Lawrence’s article, Catholic priests, pro-life activists arrested at U.S. abortion centers, “Roses were given to women in the abortion facilities and attached to each rose was a card that read: ‘You were made to love and to be loved… your goodness is greater than the difficulties of your situation. Circumstances in life change. A new life, however tiny, brings the promise of unrepeatable joy’” (3). In attempting to persuade women in abortion clinics and trying to get the clinics to shut down, pro-life activists were arrested. According to Francis J. Beckwith, author of Civil Disobedience and Abortion: A Modern Defense, “... Norman Geisler and John and Paul Feinberg, who argue that as the current law exists people have no right to engage in pro-life civil disobedience” (1). They claim that actions like those can be hurtful in many ways to those who participate in them. They believe that these actions can lead to the destruction of property as in the bombing arson of abortion clinics. Although, pro-choice activists would disagree with Geisler and Feinberg, they would claim that they should be able to stand up for what they believe
