Every year, an average of 9.2 million children die before they reach the age of five. Of these deaths, 1.21 million are caused by abortions (Abortions in America). Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy by the removal of an embryo or fetus before it is able to survive outside of the mother's body. Abortion has been an ongoing controversy that is still a heated topic today. Pro-Choice supporters believe that women should have the right to their bodies and the government shouldn’t be able to regulate what they do with their bodies. On the other hand, Pro-Life supporters believe that abortion is unethical and that everyone deserves a chance at life. Hillary Clinton once stated, “…were always going to argue about abortion. It’s a hard choice and it’s controversial, and that’s why I’m pro-choice, because I want people to make their own choices.” Contrary to Pro-Life supporters, Pro-Choice supporters believe that personhood begins after the fetus becomes able to survive outside of the mother’s womb, not at conception. This means that until the baby is actually born, it is not considered an actual person. This being said, Pro-Choice supporters do not see the unborn child as an actual person, so abortion is not considered murder to them. Pro-Choice supporters argue that personhood at conception is just a religious belief and that is it not a provable biological fact (Daniel). Studies also suggest that reproductive choice protects women from financial disadvantages. For example, mothers who have no financial funds to raise a child properly would get an abortion to avoid more financial burdens.
