Abortion is, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. Abortions happen every single day all around the world. Many people go through this procedure as if it is a simple medical procedure; as if someone’s life isn’t being taken away. But, the fact remains that, abortion is wrong and it needs to be stopped. The main argument that pro-choice activists try to make is that a woman has a right to choose what she wants to do with her body and this is certainly true. Everyone has a right to decide what they want to do with their body. But this argument does not work in cases of abortion because we aren’t talking about a woman’s body. Yes these crimes are terrible and sometimes girls as young as 12 get subject to rape and become pregnant, but using this argument has little effect when you look at the statistics of who exactly is getting abortions. Abortions because the woman was raped account for only 1% of all abortions. When you compare this to this 93% of abortions performed because the woman did not want the child for social reasons, the numbers are shocking. Even abortions performed because of potential health problems for either the mother or child, 6%, do not even compare to the amount performed for other reasons. In 2008, 1.21 million abortions were performed. That comes down to 3300 abortions per day. Every day in 2008, 3300 lives were terminated. If you showed that number to a pro-choice advocate without mentioning it was from abortions they would, hopefully, be appalled by that number. So why, when you mention that it was fetuses that were being killed do they suddenly not care? Why is a human life only important when it is convenient for that
