In 2012 approximately 1.02 million innocent lives were taken from unborn infants who will never have the chance to grow up. Abortion should be prohibited because it is inhumane, harmful to the mother, unlawful.

A baby’s heart begins to beat only six weeks after conception. By eight weeks brain waves are able to be measured. By twelve weeks the child can and does cry, though silently. By sixteen weeks the baby's movements can be felt by the mother (“Fetus”). The person that is growing inside of the mother is not just a clump of cells; it’s no less of a human than anyone else. In the US abortion is legal up to 24 weeks gestation. At this point, fifty to seventy percent of infants can survive outside of the womb. Therefore, abortion is essentially desertion or neglect of a life. Many “pro-choice” citizens use the point “It’s not a person while in the womb”. People who share this reasoning ultimately have many different explanations as to why they believe this; majority would say that it is not a person because it cannot live independently from the mother yet. The most common abortion method is “vacuum aspiration” in which the child is suctioned out of the uterus and it is not a painless process. Infants can feel pain beginning at 18-20 weeks and this is well
