Should teens go to adult prison?
Do you believe teenage criminals should go to adult prison when teen crime is a serious issue in America? Teens should go to adult prison for committing a crime with the exception of petty and non violence crime because the end product of the crime is the same, teens have the understanding that they are committing the crime, and because adult prison is a punishment for violent criminals.
Teens should go to prison because the end product of the crime is the same if an adult did it. “If you do an adult crime, you do adult time” (Estudillo). You should go to prison for breaking the law, the law is there to keep order and keep people safe. “The end result of a heinous crime remains the same, no matter who commits it” (Reaves). It doesn’t matter who commits the crime, a crime is a crime and there should be a punishment for that. …show more content…

“The 14-year-old does not have the level of maturity, thought process, decision-making, experience, or wisdom that a 24-year-old presumably has” (Edwards). Teens may not understand what they are doing due to their frontal lobe not being fully matured, causing them to have irrational thoughts in a problem solving situation. But the teen has the understanding they are committing the crime. “The fact that child killers know how to load and shoot a gun is an indicator that they understand exactly what they're doing” (Reaves). “It is absurd to argue that a modern child, who sees the effect of violence around him in the news every day, doesn't understand what killing really is” (Reaves). If a teen is able to load a gun, point it at someone, and then fire it, they know what they are doing.
