Birth control is more frequently used now than ever. There are endless options when it comes to sources of birth control, and numerous reasons behind taking it. Whether or not birth control or uses contraceptives are used by an individual depends on the reason for taking it. The most obvious cause of why people take birth control is to prevent pregnancy, however it can also be utilized as a tool to regulate hormones as well as regulate menstruation cycles when an oral contraceptive is taken, such as a daily pill. Since then, birth control pills have become more and more effective and have even increased to approximately ninety-eight percent effective in pregnancy prevention. With that being said, most insurance companies cover the cost of some birth control pills so it makes pregnancy prevention even more possible and available to more people who may have not been offered it otherwise. With things like religion and societies views not being such a huge contributing factor in today’s decisions as it has been in past times, sex is not only more practiced but practiced at a younger age than it used to be. One of these usages being hormone regulation. Although most people may not realize it, daily oral contraceptives actually prevent pregnancy by tampering with the body’s natural hormone production. The hormones controlling things like when an egg is released, when the shedding of the vaginal lining occurs, and maturation of an egg are all affected when an individual consumes birth control pills. These hormones like estrogen and progesterone have influences not only with the female anatomy and physiology but can take a toll on behavior. Behavior is also influenced by hormones and therefore is altered when taking birth control pills. Behavior of adolescent teens is fragile and can be easily influenced. Often times when young females, or any adolescents for that matter, are going through puberty they experience severe mood swings, depression, or even anxiety. The first place most physicians or doctors will turn is to the birth control pills to help regulate or balance out the hormones causing this behavior. Knowing that these pills regulate hormones this is a much safer and temporary solution than most mind-altering medications used to treat the symptoms above such as anxiety or depression. When teens are going through puberty their hormones can cause behavioral disturbances that are abnormal but that they may grow out of after puberty. Using something so simple,
