How Does The Atomic Bomb Affect Society

“One was a mother, carrying a baby on her back. But the baby was obviously dead. Its head was lolling— its mouth open.” This is from a woman who witnessed the bombing first hand. The bomb in question is the atomic bomb. The bomb was dropped on two different cities in Japan 3 days apart. The events that took place those two days was something that had never happened before. History was made but not in a good way. The bombs destroyed many houses and people. The dropping of the atomic bomb affected the Japanese people negatively on a physical level and a psychological level.

The bomb affected people negatively psychologically because it caused a multitude of mental health issues. The article “Psychological Fallout of Atomic Bomb in Nagasaki” states, “Distress was most strongly related to social activity - apathy, disrupted personal relationships, loss of pleasantness of living - suggesting that witnessing the bombing continues to have an impact on the daily lives of survivors even half a century later. ” This quote explains how not only does the bombing affected the daily lives of those back in the day but it also affects people who are still alive to this day. They experience a struggle a lot of people do not know of. They struggle socially because of the way the bombing affected their mental health. This is bad because it shows how even years and years later the bomb is an incident that still affects people to this day and caused a lot of mental damage. On top of suffering from all of these mental health problems, they had another one. Another piece of evidence from the article “Psychological Fallout of Atomic Bomb in Nagasaki” says, “With psychological effects, like PTSD, causing long-term effects to many of the surviving victims.” This quote shows another symptom that Japanese people suffered and another way the dropping of the atomic bomb impacted them negatively.
