The Pros And Cons Of Climate Change

931 Words4 Pages

Controversy and arguments follow the topic of Climate Change with all the miss-information and possible exaggeration or understatements. With the many factors that make up this topic; it is very hard to see a correct view of the situation. All in all climate change is whatever severity you want it to be depending on how you see it. This essay hopes to convey an evenly viewed perspective of climate.
One side of the climate change debate says that the warming of the earth is nothing to be overly concerned about. Dr. Steven Gollmer writes that “If CO2 is causing global warming, it will eventually reach a saturation point, and temperatures will level off at a new equilibrium.” (Answers 31) He also talks about the global cooling from the 1880s …show more content…

The NRDC studies the climate around the world and researches the effects of different things on it. Amanda MacMillan states that, “Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide and other air pollutants collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface.” (NRDC). It is well known that cars, factories, and even humans produce CO2, but cows are even a problem towards climate change. The ‘Independent’ writes “And their wind and manure emit more than one third of emissions of another, methane, which warms the world 20 times faster than carbon dioxide.” (Lean) Yet the common person does not hear about this sort of thing. Should humanity get rid of most of the animals bred for eating and just keep the animals for pets? Most if not all people would say no and with that answer lays the severity of climate change. The severity of climate change is not as bad as some people believe; it does not require an incredible, immediate response, but a well-thought, patient global …show more content…

Al Gore studies the pros and cons of the reducing greenhouse gases in terms of money spent. “Efficient lighting and electricity from landfills are ways to save money, while geothermal power and plug-in hybrids are not cost effective…”(Gore 220) If something is environmentally friendly doesn’t mean economically sustainable therefore a solution should equate both in order to fully infiltrate all walks of life. With sound science and equal parts participation and economic coherence the problem of Climate Change can be extinguished.
Lastly, the cause of Climate Change has usually been linked to CO2 emissions and the things that produce them like people, cars, and power plants. However change in temperature is not related to CO2 levels, instead it comes from the solar cycles and other non-man influenced things. ‘At Issue’ quotes David Bellamy, “Climate change has been a fact throughout history, with temperatures rising and falling in no relation to carbon dioxide levels.” (Lankford
