Coal is a nonrenewable resource formed millions of years ago. It is called nonrenewable because it cannot be formed in any reasonable amount of time. It was formed when millions of years ago, swamps with large amounts of plants, covered the earth. Later on, those plants or ? died and were covered by rocks, dirt, water, and sediment. This created large amounts of heat and pressure to form coal deep within the earth. ?

Oil

Many years ago tiny plants and animals lived in the ocean. At some point these plants and animals died and piled up on the ocean floor. Then sand and mud from eroding rocks covered the organisms remains. The amount of pressure and heat from this was enough to cause the remains to turn into the crude oil we know today.
