(2) How do teacher prepare children to take standardized test.? Getting student ready for testing, teacher must prepare instruction that not only prepare students for testing, but they must also make sure that the state standard is being met. According to Webster learning is the activity or process of gaining knowledge or skills by studying, being taught, or experiencing something. Kids are now being given standardized test such as the OLSAT, CogAT, Naglieri (NNAT), TAG, and GATE in kindergarten. There are five year olds going through test prep programs in order to get into schools for “gifted” kids. According to the 2015 PISA scores, the United States ranks 41st in math, 24th in reading, and 25th in science. The PISA is a worldwide assessment that tests 15-year-olds from around the world on key concepts of each core class (reading, math, and science). Despite all the standardized tests we have implemented to “improve and record students achievement,” the U.S. continues to slip. In reality, standardized tests have not improved student achievement and in consequence, students are having increasing levels of anxiety, which is not good for the health of all kids. “He won’t graduate” they say (Harris). The shaky hands, red faces, and biting of the pencils have become more frequent now for students as the curriculum gets more difficult and the pressure only increases for students to succeed. We have all been a victim of standardized tests not only students, but teachers. Sitting in a room for more than an hour while filling in a bubble of an educated guess is nothing compared to the interaction in the classroom (Miner). The use of standardized testing is not improving education in America, but rather degrading it through the unsatisfactory use of rank, poor evaluation, and the lack of real world situations.
