In the book Drown by Junot Diaz, there was a father that really never settled. Ramon was portrayed as the father figure in the book and it shocked me how he left his family in San Diego, and went to the United States to earn some more money but also did something bad. It 's hard to see when a father with kids cheats on his wife, lies to his father in law in order to secure money and comes to the United states to make more money. It is understandable that when you travel to get a better job and do that in order support a family you would come back to the family and share the earnings. It is cruel what Ramon did because as he arrived to New York and started working but also found someone to have an affair with and forgot about the committed marriage

Laurie Colwin (1944-1992) was born in Manhattan, New York. She was a prolific writer and her very first works were published in the New Yorker. Her first short story collection was published in 1974. Her stories were written about love, relationships, and being happy in general, however, this story “The Man Who Jumped into the Water” is quite a bit different from the others. Hiding behind a persona to get away from reality can lead someone to a breaking point because a person 's troubles catch up to them.
Please teach your children to be careful near roadways, parking lots, and other dangerous zones. Also, check your home for choking, poisoning, or falling hazards. Water safety is also incredibly important to prevent drowning deaths. If you live near or visit someone who lives near a body of water, like Coyote Creek or Moody Creek, then it is very important to make sure that children are not put at risk of drowning. Never leave your children unsupervised near even small pools, and make sure that safety fences surrounding drowning hazards do not have holes or gaps that allow small children through.
Physican-assisted suicide is defined as a voluntary termination of one 's own life by administration of a lethal substance with direct or indirect assistance of a physican. (Webster Dictionary, 2011). This topic has been a very controversial subject among so many people from different types of states and countries. The fact that, some physican are agaisnt this and some are fore it can lead to a very huge debet on whether or not to legalize this act. For one moment, imgine that you are in the hospital bed, and you have been getting treated for years now and the doctor just tells you that you have no more hope and starting now, you will be going down hill with serve pain that not even medication will help relive this pain.
Junot Diaz’s culmination of short stories, “Drown”, encompasses the essence of growing up as a male in the Dominican Republic. Diaz brilliantly interlaces this theme with the struggles of poverty, adolescence, and social expectations/gender roles. The story of a young Dominican boy growing up in less-than-ideal circumstances brings to light the many social and psychological difficulties associated with finding one’s manhood and identity as a person. Diaz tactfully utilizes two specific figures in the story “Ysrael” to symbolize these social problems. Rafa, Yunior’s older brother is a portrayal of the many “masks” of masculinity or machismo, including traits such as being sexually hyperactive, emotionless, and violent, which are imposed on Yunior
The right to die: Cons Many people with a mental disorder feel it is unfair to make assisted suicide a right to only the fatally ill. They feel it is their right to have a way out if their disorder worsens. Mental disorders can affect your mood, behavior and ability to make sound decision in times of an episode. In the Netherlands assisted suicide became legal in 2002.
SeaWorld has been in the spotlight for several years now. Whether it is negative or positive publicity, someone is talking about SeaWorld; from the new animal births at their facility, killer whales attacking their trainer and the sudden unexplainable deaths of many of their animals. In 2013 the documentary “Blackfish” explained how SeaWorld’s animals and staff are really treated. Since the release of Blackfish, SeaWorld’s image and attendance has gone down the drain. SeaWorld San Diego’s attendance is down 12% and SeaWorld Orlando is down 8% (Weisberg, 2015).
Physician assisted suicide, although legal in some states, should remain illegal because it goes against religious and moral beliefs. “In physician assisted suicide, the physician provides the necessary means or information and the patient performs the act” (Endlink). Supporters of assisted-suicide laws believe that mentally competent people who are in misery and have no chance of long-term survival, should have the right to die if and when they choose. I agree that people should have the right to refuse life-saving treatments, written in the patient bill of rights.

My nerves from the first class unexpectedly came rushing back. These students grew into great swimmers, but I knew that the depth of the water could petrify them. The first few students were able to swim back up with little to no effort, but the last girl lost her footing and slipped into the pool and couldn 't resurface. I froze as I saw her struggling to swim and breathe. My mind quickly flashed back to the time I jumped out of my tube and almost drowned.
