Issue description
Hydraulic fracturing also known as ?fracking? is a controversial oil and gas extraction technique that is used to access fossil energy deposits that previously were inaccessible to drilling operations. Fracking involves the smashing of rock with large amounts of water, sand, and chemicals to access the gas and oil in rock formations and bring them to the surface. This is done by drilling vertically thousands of feet into the earth, the drilling is then angled horizontally where a cement casing is installed and serves as a channel for the massive volume of water, sand needed to fracture the rock. As stated above the fracture releases the oil and gas and it is brought to the surface. This practice of shooting water, …show more content…

Fracking consumes large amounts of water and also could be the cause of contaminated water. In the long run the depletion of our water sources could be very detrimental to our society. We need water to survive. We are so unaware of all the damage that fracking could be causing to our environment and the risks it could be presenting to our health. We could say only time will tell us the outcome and effects but can we afford to sit around and watch our water be contaminated, fault lines be disrupted, and air be greatly polluted. For one to decide whether fracking is making positive or negative influence on our economy, environment and health there are many things I must be considered and researched. Does the economic benefit out weigh the harm it is causing to our environment and the potential harm it could cause to our health.
