The article, “Small town residents stage angry protest after 'fracking' causes series of earthquakes” written by Jonathan Benson is about the of fracking. Fracking is when companies try to get natural fuels from inside of the earth. However, when they are done, workers temporarily place dangerous water in gaps inside the earth that creates an unstable surface. Fracking operations in northern Texas are responsible for more than 30 seismic earthquakes within a four month time period. There have been similar seismic events in other parts of the country. Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Ohio are being negatively affected by drilling sites. The first thing the residents wanted was for the wastewater injection to stop until there is a way to prevent any earthquakes. They would also like all of the seismic data collected to be put online and in real time. Finally, the would like the people responsible for the injections to be liable for any damage caused by the earthquakes in the area but so far, there hasn’t been serious damage.
There are many differences between fracking and earthquakes. Normal earthquakes occur deep below earth’s surface while earthquakes caused by fracking occur close to the surface. Tsunamis are

Fracking is another source of fuel, decreasing a city’s dependency on foreign oil. Fracking doesn’t cost much because it is produced locally. The amount of jobs in the oil industry has almost doubled due to fracking. However, fracking requires between one and eight million gallons of water for each fracking site. This water contains many hazardous chemicals and can possibly contaminate the environment. The biggest negative part about fracking is that is can trigger earthquakes “It is highly probable that the hydraulic fracturing of Cuadrilla’s Preese Hall-1 well did trigger a number of minor seismic events”. These measured 2.3 and 1.5 on the Richter scale, respectively.” proves that fracking can possibly cause seismic
