Introduction
The advent of the internet has changed the way people can gamble. Technologies like smartphones, tablets and computers enhanced the possibilities to gamble in an online environment. Nowadays, people can gamble everywhere and at any time. When people have access to gambling at any time it is necessary gain more knowledge from the players of these online gambling games/sites to gain insights in the risks and possible opportunities.
In the Netherlands 5.3 million people participate in lottery or lotto. 400.000 people do visit a casino on a regular basis (AGOG, n.d.). Online gambling has been legalized in 2015 in the Netherlands (Van Rooij, Kisjes and Willemen, 2015). Around 1.5 million people in the Netherlands gamble online (NOS, 2015). According to research in 2005, it was estimated there were around 40.000 problem gamblers, and around 76.000 player were estimated to be high risk players (AGOG, n.d.)..
Gambling is both a form of entertainment as a something which can develop into an addiction and disorders( e.g. pathological gambling). A pathological gambler is someone who is unable to resist his or her impulses to gamble. This can lead to severe personal and or social consequences. For example, pathological gambling can be a factor which leads to homelessness (Knezevic & Ledgerwood, 2012), and other atrocious financial consequences. In Spain there was significant increase in young pathological gamblers since the legalization of online gambling (Chóliz, 2015).
