If someone wants to commit a crime, gun laws will not stop them from obtaining the weapon. For example, drugs are illegal, but every day, you either see someone with, or recovering from a drug habit. People are responsible for the crimes they do, not the guns themselves. Gun control aims to restrict firearms by selecting who can sell, buy and possess a gun. Criminals won’t obey the laws and the stricter gun control law or banning the guns.
With so many shootings arising these days, many people wonder whether handguns should be banned or not. Some people say it is a part of American history and that they would not be here today without guns. While others believe that the country would be more peaceful and safe if the guns were illegal. The problems that come with banning guns are endless and could possibly cause many more problems than necessary or intended. Having a handgun is a way of protection and self defense.
Strict regulations and limitations have been pursued already and clearly do not suffice. Statics brought to attention by gun control opponents, show that gun control laws have done little to reduce crime rates. Several restrictions have been made on certain guns, considered as overly dangerous, though in the hands of an unstable criminal even a legal hunting gun can be deadly. Countless restrictions have been made, however people have still found ways around them. If people are unstable and determined enough, they will find a gun, regardless of the restrictions or regulations.
In this day and time, there are a plethora of new laws being made because of the number of homicides that have been committed, killing numerous innocent citizens. This has forced our government to try and take a stand by making these laws. Including the gun control laws, the gun control laws are why I am making my essay to begin with, I want to share my thoughts on gun control laws from a pro gun prospective. I believe that we should not have gun control laws for numerous reasons. The first reason is a gun doesn’t kill a person its man on man crime.
In our society, there is a constant battle between political parties and ideologies on what to do regarding gun rights. The argument is whether to maintain the gun laws we have or pass further gun restrictions. I don’t know why this is hard for some people to understand. Criminals, by definition, are people who commit crimes. If criminals do not follow the laws we have now, they will disregard any further restrictions.
Gun laws are one of the reason that rates the percentage of criminals over the US population. The Gun Control Act of 1968 was accepted by signature of President Lydon B.Johnson on October 22,1968 that gave the gun licensed for the firearm dealers, and prohibited them to sell a gun for felons, drug users, or mentally incompetent persons. This Act was passed under presidential term of John F Kennedy in 1963 that prelude an assassination by firearm. Obviously, gun control laws apply for all citizens who include offenders. Because on one side the government think owning a handgun that eliminates gun deaths.
The implementation of stricter gun laws will not terminate crime. Washington, D.C. has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, yet it is one of the most dangerous places in the country to live. Criminals that seek to harm others do not obey laws. Changing the laws of a country or the making of new ones does not get rid of the problem. Adding more rules and regulations could create larger problems that do not involve guns, but instead, other types of weapons.
Weather guns are banned or not, criminals will always find a way to obtain guns. According to John R. Lott, Jr., PhD, gun rights activist, stated on May 4th 2002, “The problem with such [gun control] laws is that they take away guns from law-abiding citizens, while would-be criminals ignore them”. Criminals don’t care about laws, that is why they are criminals. “Of 62 mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and 2012, 49 of the shooters used legally obtained guns. Collectively, 143 guns were possessed by the killers with about 75% obtained legally” (Follman Mark).
In conclusion, gun control is a broken social contract in America that needs to be changed. In order to change this social contract, more restrictions on guns should be made. People who intend to own a gun should take gun safety classes and go through certain procedures such as mental health tests and background checks in every state. All fifty states in America should abide by the same gun restriction laws. What is significant about gun control is that the right to bear arms varies from state to state, affects American citizens and police, and is a threat to American society.
One of the major conflicts that have been controversial and complex is gun control. As we hear on the news about shootings and the mass media displaying them, we begin to think about whether or not gun control should be stricter than the law has it now. Some of the questions to be answered are something along the lines of: Is making guns law stricter going to help, is making places a free gun zone help, and does leaving the law the way it is really going to help? These claims will be answered along with problems in trying to increase the gun law strictness or be able to decrease the firearm death rate significantly. People believe that gun control should be stricter than it is now due to the vast amounts of mass shootings happening on the news.
Take smuggling and trafficking crimes, while the people who endorse withdrawing specific firearms and ammunation from a legal market have good intentions, doing so is counter productive as it promotes a stronger illegal firearm market, contributes to more smuggling, and enables black market expansion. Criminals do not look up gun laws before they decide they want to purchase a firearm through the black market, more legislation would only be ignored by

On the other hand, gun control laws don’t make it impossible to own a gun, therefore guns can still be stolen. “Even if the gun owner had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and would never use it in furtherance of a crime, is it likely that the same can be said for the burglar who steals the gun?”
This way of thinking is understandable because if we don't get weapons, then how are we supposed to protect ourselves. I also disagree with this because if the laws are more strict then there will be less crime and this will make them not want to do the right thing. Some argue that making gun control laws more strict is not the best way to go. ( Sheldon Richman) argues that gun control is ineffective at preventing crime.
Gun laws simply penalize and restrict honest citizens while criminals continue to find ways and loopholes to arm themselves. Gun laws currently established serve their purpose rather poorly as criminals unceasingly buy guns even after they are said to be forbidden.
