The law is never something to take lightly especially when the specific law is set in place to prevent the loss of human life. Gun control laws have a basis set by the federal government and are expanded upon by each individual state as they deem fit. Federal gun laws and state gun laws have their similarities and differences, but both are set in place as a barrier of protection against those who could cause bodily harm to others if equipped with such power that a gun holds. The U.S federal Government has its own set of regulations concerning firearms and the state of California builds upon them to create a stronger gun policy, meaning both sets of codes and regulations have similarities and differences, but no matter the differences, these laws are set in place to prevent massacres like the Las Vegas, Nevada shooting, and while California gun laws are built upon federal laws, they can be improved for a safer more controlled environment. However, it is important to note that the Second Amendment was written in a time when guns were far less powerful than they are today. The founding fathers could not have imagined the type of weapons that are now readily available to the public. Additionally, the Second Amendment does not give Americans an unlimited right to own any type of weapon they want. It is the responsibility of the government to regulate and ensure the safety of its citizens.
This means that citizens have the right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Although this amendment may seem straightforward, it has been subjected to lots of ongoing debate. What makes guns such a controversial topic? Peoples’ opinions vary on the topic of whether we should have new gun control laws along with the prior gun control laws we already have set in place. What causes this issue to be so controversial is people debating whether there should be gun control laws due to the high crime rates. Although guns can be helpful and dangerous there should not be gun control because people still will not follow the new laws, people would still sell guns illegally, and the death rate by guns will still be the same.
This is an important topic in America, this decides whether the citizens are in control of the government or if the government is in control of us. Gun control is the problem in the United States.

This once again shows a correlation between a higher gun ownership rate and a lower violence rate. Mauser and Kates also support Lotts claims by explaining, “Where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are the lowest, and where guns are least dense violent crime rates are the highest” (Kates, Mauser 649).
Is our country a safe environment to live in? Is it somewhere where you don't have to constantly worry about violence? Or is it somewhere where you can go to school or work feeling protected and safe? The lack of involvement in gun control is leading to the increase in violence and causing severe problems in our society. Through the second amendment, gun control has become an issue to American society.
When it comes to personal perceptions, there are certain issues that are predetermined, making the media’s reportings almost irrelevant due to the fact that there will be no bias change. Politics falls under this category. Gun control and the topic of gun violence is mainly a political issue, meaning the perceptions surrounding guns is often determined by outside factors. These factors include but are not limited to gender or age, socioeconomic class, race or religion, and education level. Consumers tend to seek out content that reaffirms their beliefs.
The Second Amendment of the United States constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the constitution itself. (The Guardian, 2017). The idea of gun control laws directly violates this constitutional right. The NRA believes that gun control should not be under consideration.
According to a poll by CNN, forty-nine percent of Americans support stricter gun control, while fifty percent oppose. With the question of gun control constantly brought up with well thought out arguments from both sides, the topic has become one of the most controversial issues in American Society today. Before delving into this issue, a person must understand what the current regulations on firearms are. The highest law in the land, the United States Constitution, made the original laws on gun control as stated in the second amendment.
The Second Amendment guarantees law-abiding Americans the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. But over time, gun control laws have placed limits on that freedom. Some politicians and gun control proponents argue that these laws are necessary — even at the cost of infringing upon a fundamental American right. But the fact is, gun control doesn’t work the way advocates argue it does. What is Gun Control?
Are we really in need of gun control? The controversary on gun control has been an existing topic since early 18th century or maybe even earlier. Throughout American history, technology has improved dramatically and the improvement on technology has increased the danger which lies in the barrel of a gun. From handguns to machine guns, regular civilians have found ways to get their hands on these war-like weapons. In my opinion, I think it is realistic to say that there is simply no way the government can cease the use of guns.
Guns are perceived as bad almost everywhere now. The reasoning behind this is people think if they didn’t have guns all of the shootings, bombings, and crime would all go away. The only thing that would come from taking guns away from the people is that they would be defense less and more targeted than ever by terrorists and criminals. People will always have access to illegal things such as drugs, bombs, and if guns are banned they will always be able to get them. Guns are seen as the cause of mass shootings and murders across the world and people wanna get rid of them, however people can still get there hands on guns so if you take away the citizens guns no one can defend themselves.
