Gun control is a majorly debated topic in today’s society. People are worried about our 2nd Amendment right. This worries me because without guns we should never feel safe again. I couldn’t imagine someone coming into my house and me not having any way to protect myself. Arguments have been booming in the supreme court. So many cause have been brought in and they keep on failing. There just may be a very good reason for that. District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) was a landmark case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held in a 5-4 decision that the Second Amendment of The United States Constitution applies to federal enclaves and protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense within the home. Cruikshank (1875) was a post Civil War era case relating to the Ku Klux Klan depriving freed slaves basic rights such as freedom of assembly and to bear arms. The court ruled the application of the First and Second Amendments"was not intended to limit the powers of the State governments in respect to their own citizens" and "has no other effect than to restrict the powers of the national government," respectively. In summary, it ruled the federal government could not file charges against citizens in federal court regarding violations of other citizens constitutional rights. It was up to the states to protect the fundamental rights of its citizens when their rights were abridged by other citizens. So most of everyone with a clear background is able to obtain arms. Not everyone have to bear arms though. It is your choice. If you don’t like them, then don’t get them. It is a decision between you and know one else. If you are not comfortable getting them, then don’t. But don’t try to ruin it for everyone else that wants to be
