In our world, a hugely controversial topic is gun control. Should we have gun control, or should we not? Having gun control withdraws the right stated in the 2nd amendment, and strips people of a way to defend themselves. The amendments are rights that should not, and cannot be taken away from anyone. Guns are a given right, and gun control will ruin that.
First of all, every American has the right to bear arms according to the 2nd amendment. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (Second Amendment). This is stated in the 2nd amendment and proves that the right to bear Arms cannot be infringed upon. According to a research conducted in Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, the more guns there are, the less violence there is. This way, the 2nd amendment will not be infringed and there is less gun violence. There is a negative correlation between gun ownership and violent crime (Harvard Journal of Law and Public Privacy). Gun Control will only prevent citizens who follow the law from obtaining guns, not criminals. Due to this, criminals who do not follow the law will obtain guns illegally, and gun control will do nothing to stop this (Gun Control). People need to understand that only those who are good people will be restricted from ownership of a gun. Those who want to kill want to do something illegal, and so they have no problems illegally obtaining a gun. 37.4% of state prison inmates who "used, carried, or possessed a firearm when they committed the crime for which they were serving a prison sentence" obtained the gun from a family member or friend. (Gun Control). Strict regulations on gun ownership will only benefit criminals by disarming those who could save lives with self-defense
