Lieutenant Jeff Cooper once said, "The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil". The topic of gun control is still today, an extremely controversial topic, with both sides of the argument having valid claims. Though most may argue that because guns are used to murder, taking away guns will halt murder, it seems simple enough. Nothing really comes that easy though. Gun control should not be enforced because guns are used to protect lives, and prevent crimes, more than they are used to assist in illegal activity. The origins of the gun controversy in America can be traced to 1791, when the second amendment was first put into effect. Though not used for the same purposes as in 1791, it still holds a vital part in the daily lives of the American people. The right to own guns, which according to James Madison, is "Necessary to the security of a free state" is apparent in all situations nowadays. Another direct quote from the amendment is that, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". In simpler terms, it is a right to own guns, and it can never be taken away. Most all gun-free zones would fall under the categories listed, but where does most mass shootings happening? Since 1977, all mass homicides in America have happened in gun-free zones, with the exception of Tucson (Taylor 1). Another fact is that more than 3 mass school shootings over the last decade have been prevented by administrators having guns (Wilson 1). Is there reason behind these statistics, or do they just happen by chance. The real question to ask is, who is going to retaliate against our enemies in a gun free
