Passing gun control legislation that creates a universal background check and gun database system as well as passing mental health legislation that improves the health care system’s protocols and policies for assisting people with mental health disorders and that enacts counseling programs in communities and schools will decrease the likelihood of mass shootings in schools. The United States is bitterly divided. Issues of great concern, such as the rise of mass shootings, are partisanized. Both sides of the debate will not comprise or listen to what their opponents have to say. Groups from both sides can only agree that one innocent life taken from gun violence is one too many.
I think its good that Obama thinks we need a gun law because over the years we have seen a spark in mass shooting. But I also understand that its our right to bare arms. But I hope that congress can come to a action plan to form a bill that has limitations on guns. I think that we should have a mental check on people to see if they are in the right mindset to have a gun. We need to try to get the selling of illegally down.
The law is never something to take lightly especially when the specific law is set in place to prevent the loss of human life. Gun control laws have a basis set by the federal government and are expanded upon by each individual state as they deem fit. The U.S federal Government has its own set of regulations concerning firearms and the state of California builds upon them to create a stronger gun policy, meaning both sets of codes and regulations have similarities and differences, but no matter the differences, these laws are set in place to prevent massacres like the Las Vegas, Nevada shooting, and while California gun laws are built upon federal laws, they can be improved for a safer more controlled environment. Strict regulations and limitations have been pursued already and clearly do not suffice. Statics brought to attention by gun control opponents, show that gun control laws have done little to reduce crime rates. Several restrictions have been made on certain guns, considered as overly dangerous, though in the hands of an unstable criminal even a legal hunting gun can be deadly. Countless restrictions have been made, however people have still found ways around them. If people are unstable and determined enough, they will find a gun, regardless of the restrictions or regulations.
Not all who purchase guns are criminals but there are more than 70% of people who purchase guns to create violence and even to kill their family members in anger. Due to lots of shooting going on these days, the government now definitely should not allow anyone to purchase any kind of guns. Also, ask everyone with guns to give it back to the government. Before television became more advanced during the mid 1940s, only about a few networks existed at the time, especially with news channels. Before cable got its upgrade, only very few well known news channels existed at the time. In the past, it was more simpler to announce the latest news . Sure the newspaper and radio exist, however, most newspaper articles were only made locally, for example, it will only talk about an event that happened in the city. But the news on television are more prominent in this present time, but now people can search anywhere for the latest events that occur around the world, whether it's on social media, television, or on the newspaper.
If not guns, it's knives. If not knives, it's clubs. If not clubs, what's next? As much as we would like to believe we live in a perfectly sound world, the reality is, the world which we live will always have crime. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime is not the only kind of crime there is.
According to a poll by CNN, forty-nine percent of Americans support stricter gun control, while fifty percent oppose. With the question of gun control constantly brought up with well thought out arguments from both sides, the topic has become one of the most controversial issues in American Society today. Before delving into this issue, a person must understand what the current regulations on firearms are. The highest law in the land, the United States Constitution, made the original laws on gun control as stated in the second amendment.
The issue with implanting strict gun control regulations in our society is that people will become vulnerable targets for criminals. Criminals will continue to conduct harmful crimes, despite the laws, and law-abiding citizens won’t have the necessary weapons needed to successfully defend themselves. For instance, “59% of the burglaries in Britain, which has tough gun control laws, are ‘hot burglaries’ which are burglaries committed while the home is occupied by the owner/renter. By contrast, the U.S., with more lenient gun control laws, has a ‘hot burglary’ rate of only 13%” (“Crimes and Guns”). The implementation of gun control laws will thus increase crime rates as people will become vulnerable targets for criminals.
Gun proponents consider a way to protect ordinary citizens. In the other hand, gun control laws seem perfect, but they cannot stop criminals from obtaining guns illegally. In fact, the main reason of causing those incidents is people’s morals and values. If guns are illegal to use, criminals would simply switch other methods to kill people. In addition, six people were injured while five people were killed in Fort Lauderdale Airport shooting.
Guns, what do we know about them? Well ever since the 1200-1300s, when they were first invented they have been known to be used for protection or the opposite, crimes. In everyone’s minds this weapon of choice has certainly a negative or positive connotation as to how you look at it. In 2009, it has been confirmed by the Congressional Research Service that there are over 310 million guns used by regular citizens not including the military. Obviously many people don’t feel safe within the government and feel to the need to protect themselves and loved ones.
The nationwide availability of these guns creates a major problem regarding who buy them, from general gun stores, to gun shows / conventions, to even Walmart, getting ahold of a gun is still pretty easy in this year. Especially at gun shows though, some where you ¨don 't have to go through a background check when they make a purchase at a gun show¨ (Smith). Aaron Smith, a writer from CNN, claims in his article about how easy it is to obtain a weapon, and how although shootings seem to go up, gun control laws seem to stand still. Without making it rules for obtaining these guns then how can we continue to be surprised by the constant mass shootings perpetrated by these criminals?
Gun laws are a good point in the United States, they are used to keep those who need help safe. Although guns will be used to take a life many use it for their own personal gain. Causing many problems for others who suffer. Think of a gun as a car, in order to own a vehicle, you need to take both a written test and a practice tests.
Before being able to sell and deal firearms you must go through a process where you have a background check. If you pass all the requirements then you are rewarded a license that permits you to sell firearms. They have also made laws that prohibit people with a criminal background or a convicted felon from buying weapons and firearms, for they could cause harm and terror to society. Though this does not prevent all illegal gun deals it does keep the number low, and also helps the government monitor gun owners and such more easily. hopefully I was able to convince most of you who read this, and persuaded you to see why guns should be legal, and how citizens should be able to use them for various reasons.

There are as many people who advocate for pro gun laws as the people who are opposed, which is the reason why gun control has become one of the most controversial topics as of right now. America is truly split between those who advocate for gun control and those who are opposed.
