The American Dream is considered to be an ethical appeal that portrays the idea of freedom and equal opportunity to all. What makes this concept so desirable is that in many countries throughout the world don't have the opportunities that are offered in the U.S., which eventually leads people to immigrate. By immigrating to the U.S., thousands of individuals will be able to search for opportunities they never had before to help lead them to a better life. Though the concept itself seems straight and simple, the established laws that have been made have made this task so much difficult. Looking back at some of the more impactful individuals such as Albert Einstein who originally lived in Germany before coming to the U.S, and Sundar Pichai originating from India. These two individuals themselves had made a significant impact in our everyday lives from the man who fathered modern physics to a man who is the current CEO of the search tool, Google, we all have come to love and use on an almost daily basis. By allowing immigration to be fully legal, it could potentially bring more individuals who can have a positive impact to our modern-day lives. Though there has been immigration going on for many years, the laws and enforcements have gotten a lot stricter on it, but looking back on the origins it wasn't what it is today. Though immigrants make up about 13 percent of the U.S. population, they contribute nearly 15 percent of the country's economic output, according to a 2014 report from the Economic Policy Institute. (Tan, A., & Marshall, S, 2017) If immigration were to stop and all of the current immigrants were to be removed it would have a tremendous effect on our economy as we know it. With immigrants having occupations ranging from cooks all the way up to CEO's of companies, the skills, experiences, and values they own that make the economy successful would go away, and the environment we live in would be completely different in a negative way. If considered an individual like Steve Jobs, whose father was Syrian, was never here, would a majority of America still use iPhones? With the economy constantly growing with new businesses providing jobs for everyone it provides opportunities for immigrants to find work.
