Overall the outcomes of women in resistance is very positive. Though getting to there goal had cost the lives of many women and the torture of thousands. Without their sacrifices and the help from some countries such as East Timor, Greece, or USA get to where they are today. East Timor had finally gained their independence after the massacre of thousands that was covered up, but brought to the world from the resistance. World powers saw what actions and took action in gaining their independence back as well as supporting them military.
In “Traditional Mother and Father” Still the Best Choice for Children” (2002), Tom Adkins argues that heterosexual parents are a better choice for a child than homosexual ones. Adkins supports his claim by undermining the AAP’s data that concludes that “parents ' sexual orientation alone cannot predict their ability to provide a supportive home environment for children”, by citing the report No Basis: What the Studies Don 't Tell Us About Same Sex Parenting, whose author states "the studies are fatally flawed in methodology, technique and analysis. Some didn 't even have control groups.”
In a recent surveys it is shown that over 27% of children in America are being raised by single parents, and over 2 million children are raised by homosexual couples. The old average image of a middle class white family with two parents, and a stable environment is no longer the normal or highly viewed social standing. Various movies, television shows, books, and other forms of literature depict families of different background and standings. For example, in the popular television show Modern Family depicts two gay men raising their adopted daughter and a blended family, the people on the show are always caring for and show constant love for their children. Even though they are not under normal circumstances the children of these different families are growing up in a loving and stable environment.
In today’s society, there is a wide variety of family configurations which are constantly changing and adapting to things such as cultural diversity, divorce rates, sexual orientation, and religious beliefs. The “typical” family, (commonly seen in American 1950’s television sitcoms) is a rarity in 2015. Problems with communication arise when one makes assumptions about another person’s family dynamic. For example, people with careers in fields like teaching, law, and healthcare have to be especially aware and sensitive to the fact that not all families display the “traditional” European American family model which consists of a household with parents of the opposite sex, their biological children, and a strong value placed on individualism.
Jean Bethke Elshtain presents a critical perspective about the deteriorating state of the family in contemporary society in her article, “Society's Well-Being Depends upon the Traditional Family”. By employing rhetorical strategies of ethos, logos, and pathos, the author constructs a persuasive case that calls for renewed focus on the family as the fundamental unit of society. Elshtain builds her argument through a combination of rhetorical strategies, including the use of ethos, logos, and pathos. Each of these elements contributes to her overall argument and the extent to which her rhetoric succeeds in convincing readers of the urgency in addressing the challenges faced by the family unit.
A violent criminal or a keeps-to-themselves, pot smoker, who would you rather be neighbors with? To most, the answer is quite clear. However, with the number arrests of misdemeanor marijuana possession outweighing the number of solved violent crimes, you’re more likely to live next to a potential threat. In order to prevent wasting police resources and hundreds of millions of dollars, we must vote in favor for Proposition 19.
A children raced in a homosexual family will believe that this is how a natural and normal family is, which will give him a wrong idea of how families should be created. When the child starts going to school he will see that most of his friends have a mom and a dad but he does not. For example, a few days ago, I saw in the TV a reportage about a homosexual male couple that adopt a 6 year old child, as it was not so small, he was so confused about why he has two male parents in comparison to what he has learned before of a kid having a mom and a dad, the gay couple was talking about what to do with the kid because he was always asking questions and the couple do not know how to handle the situation. A child needs male and female role models in their life. The child will grow with different values and thinking, in comparison to the other kids, which can affect his life.
Modern Family, one of the highest rated comedy series on television, currently in its 8th year of production, follows the daily lives of a father, his two children, and their respective families. The show has received numerous awards and accolades from critics for its incorporation of comedy, parenthood, and current day issues, all in one show. The sitcom is set in Los Angeles, an ethnically diverse city known for its liberal and progressive views. Jay Pritchett depicts a rigid, middle-aged successful business executive, who after a much unhappy marriage to an apparently crazy woman, Dee Dee, is now married to his trophy wife, Gloria. They together have a young child, Joe.
“ In truth the Family is like any heterosexual household.” (http://ic.galegroup.com/ ) This shows that even though the child will grow up with either two moms or two dads they will still turn out the same and the family dinamic is still the same within the house no matter who the parents are. Some may say if a child is raised by Gay parents then the parents sexuality will automatically transfer to the child. However tests have shown that there is no evidence that would suggest that growing up with gay parents would impact their well-being. .Some might say that Gay parents can foster children but they shouldn’t be able to adopt the children.
Family theories have been used throughout the history of nursing to help guide patient care and provide the best patient outcomes. Certain theories may be more applicable to the specific patient encounter; however, each theory has benefits and drawbacks to their use. The purpose of this paper is to examine two selected theories, comparing their strengths and weaknesses. I will also discuss a theoretical family in relation to one theory, and how that theory can be best integrated into the care provided by an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). Description of Theories
III) Homosexuals can provide the love, care and home that a child needs (Reason). A) Homosexuals work and know what it means to provide a home not only for themselves but for a child (Warrant). B) According to the article “Gay Parenting Pros and Cons” by Crystal Lombardo gay parents are about the benefits of the new family unit and its impact to society, they are able to help in focusing on the child’s welfare and are able to give the child they adopt the opportunity of living in a loving family which they have not yet experienced (Backing). 1)
Since the mass shooting at a night club in Orlando Florida, the LGBTQ community has been brought to light on the discrimination they have endured from other people because of who they are attracted to and what they believe to see in a partner. Due to the way most people were raised, they handle these differences violently and showing their distaste for the individuals because they relate to their old customs; as for religion, they cannot be interested in the same sex. From homosexuals struggling to get a marriage license, they are now struggling to become parents. Political people are wanting to ban the majority of the states to not let gay and lesbian couples adopt. Some people view this as another home for loving parents to get the opportunity to take care of a child in need.
The structural aspect of a family is that since laws and rights have come into fruition, it has led to an increase in couples having civil marriages and partnerships. Currently, the frequency of partners who are gay and lesbian has also increased and has therefore wilted of what was once recognised a ‘traditional family’. Parents who live on their own and taking full responsibility of their children has taken a gradual rise in and around the World, this has also the paved the way towards a lesser representation on how a traditional family would look like to a certain
This essay discusses how the family is viewed by two different sociological perspectives- functionalism and conflict theory. Firstly, ‘family’ is defined. Secondly, the main ideas of functionalism will be discussed followed by how this theory perceives the family. The main ideas of Conflict Theory will then be examined and how conflict theorists perceive the family.
Homosexuality is becoming more and more accepted and integrated into today’s society, however, when it comes to homosexuals establishing families, a problem is posed. In most states, homosexuals can adopt children like any other married or single adult. There are many arguments to this controversial topic; some people believe that it should be legal nationally, while others would prefer that is was banned everywhere, or at least in their individual states. There are logical reasons to allow gays to adopt children, but for some, these reasons are not enough. The main issue really is, what is in the best interest of the child?
