Your grandfathers lung cancer has entered metastasis, it has been slowly spreading through out his body, he just recently lost most movement in his legs. He is now a hollow shell of the man that he used to be, the color in his eyes dull steadily every day, and now his high-spirited attitude has vanished. Everyday before you leave, he’ll say “kill me”, what would you do in this situation? would you break the law and help grant the wishes of your elder? its a cruel life we live in when ability to choose the time of our fate is not legal in all US states except: California, Oregon, Washington and Vermont. they state that its against oath for doctors to participate in active euthanasia. most of those who agree with this argument don't know that for example, in Canada only a “few medical schools use the Hippocratic Oath” because it is inconsistent with its premises (Barnard 28). The oath makes the doctor promise relieve any pain felt and make sure to not give deadly medicine. The oath isn't applied to cancer patients. cancer patients use chemo therapy, a radio active medication that is harmful to the body. as a result of chemo, the side effects are unbearable pain, hair loss, vomiting and other extreme side effects. because of its effect on the human body its considered a “ deadly medicine” which is why the Hippocratic Oath cannot be used to deny the right to assisted
